His parents came over from Europe. His mom was Greek and
his father Italian.
His first job, 9 years old, part-time, was selling Christmas cards door-to-door
and newspapers with his brother to help support the family.
After graduating high school and serving in the US Navy for two years this young
man returns home to LA and struggles to make ends meet. He does everything from
selling encyclopedias, to pumping gas and even becomes homeless during the process.
Determined to find success, he begins collecting bottles to stay afloat.
Later he makes friends with a guy name Paul while working as a District Sales
Manager for a hair care company.
Eventually the two men decide to launch their own hair care company and found a
backer to put up a half-million dollars. That money was supposed to arrive soon
however they Never got a penny. So this inspiring entrepreneur just slept in his
car for the first two weeks and they ended up with no partner.
So with $700, $350 from his partner and another $350 bucks he borrowed from
his mom along with three products, he headed out to start the company. He had two
weeks left before the bills were due. Just like selling encyclopedias, I went
door to door, beauty salon to beauty salon trying to build his business. today
the company earns a revenue of $1 billion a year!
If that was not enough, 9 years later he co-founds a massively successful premium
brand of Tequila which has gone on to become one of the most valuable liquor brands
in the world.
In addition to his massive success in the hair care business and in the liquor
business, he has met with the Dalai lama to exchange ideas on world peace, he
has consulted for the CIA, hes involved in supporting sustainability and he gives
in many ways to the homless in his home town of LA. In 2003 he became the only
person in the professional beauty industry to have a seat on the New York
Stock Exchange, he teamed up with Nelson Mandela, Brad Pitt and Sir Richard
Branson to help eliminate landmines throughout Africa and sponsors a prosthetics
program for landmine victims, He dedicated in helping to support human rights and
in helping the environment. Appeared as a guest panelist on the hit TV Show
Shark Tank and In 2014 he started Rock Mobile, a revolutionary cellular service that combines both
the mobile and music industry.
The man I am talking about is none other than John Paul DeJoria, the co founder
of John Paul Mitchell hair care sysytems and the ever popular Patrone tequila.
